Hp Deskjet 2545 Auto Feed Scanner

Top Ten Reviews Verdict

The HP DeskJet 3755 is a solid all-in-one printer for people who only need occasional use out of a printer, and don't want anything too bulky. The print quality is fairly average, but for the price we still think it's a good deal.

    Print quality is just OK

Despite having been around for a few years now, the HP Deskjet 3755 is still one of the best compact printers (opens in new tab) on the market. Unlike some of the other printers that we looked at, the HP Deskjet is compact, but it isn't portable. This means that it's perfectly suited to people who have limited space at home and still want a printer for their home office, but it won't be any good if you need to print on the go - for that, we'd recommend something like the Epson WF-110 (opens in new tab).

But if you're a college student living in a small dorm or just a city dweller with an apartment that's tight on space, then the HP DeskJet 3755 is here to answer your space saving prayers.

HP DeskJet 3755 review: Features

The HP DeskJet 3755 measures a compact 15.86 x 6.97 x 5.55 inches, which is positively tiny as desktop printers go. You should have no trouble fitting this diminutive printer into your home desk set-up alongside your home computer (opens in new tab). It only weighs 5.13 pounds too, so it's light enough to be moved around the house if you need it in another room though it is heavier than some of the other compact printers we've reviewed, like the HP OfficeJet Mobile 200 (opens in new tab).

But when you consider that most normal sized home printers weigh in at anywhere from 15 to 40 lbs, the HP DeskJet 3755 is a featherweight by comparison. So if you need to move the printer between rooms a lot (maybe you're sharing one printer between several students in a dorm) then this printer will be perfect for you.

The HP Deskjet 3755's input tray holds up to 60 pages at a time, and it comes with a fold-out output tray that can hold up to 25 printed pages, which is handy if you need to print off a long report or essay in one go. That's about in line with other small printers like the Epson WF-110 (opens in new tab).

The HP DeskJet 3755 also has a built-in scanner which is very handy for quickly digitizing printed documents and getting them onto your PC or laptop (opens in new tab).

HP DeskJet 3755 review: Print Quality

Print quality is good but not perfect. Regular documents that we printed were marked with several pinprick-size ink spots, and color printing suffered from some noticeable banding. Black-and-white documents printed at a reasonable speed of 7.89 pages per minute, but color documents print much slower at 3.75 pages per minute. This is to be expected, as color documents usually take longer, regardless of which printer you're using.

As an all-in-one, the DeskJet 3755 also comes with a built-in scanner and copier, but the machine's small size necessitates a scroll scanner that scans as it feeds individual pages through instead of a flatbed scanner. The scan and copy quality was fine, but weirdly it defaults to copying at 75% of the original size. You can change this in the settings though.

HP's ink prices usually aren't bad, but the per-page cost of printing is high for an inkjet printer, with two standard-size ink cartridges (black and tri-color) selling for around $16 to $17. HP does offer larger XL high-capacity cartridges, which reduce the cost even further.

HP also offers a cheaper alternative through its Instant Ink subscription service, which delivers discounted ink by mail as you need it. For most users, the price of the subscription is much more affordable than buying the same ink cartridges without it.

HP DeskJet 3755 review: Connectivity

The HP DeskJet 3755 connects to your home computer or laptop via a USB cable or WiFi connection, and it's compatible with both Windows and Mac devices. There is also support for printing from your smartphone thanks to Apple AirPlay and Google Cloud Print compatibility, along with HP's own ePrint app which works with an array of smartphones (opens in new tab) and tablets (opens in new tab).

Sadly there are no spare USB ports or SD media card slots, so you can't print directly from those storage devices. Given the small size and cheap cost of this printer, it would have been a stretch to expect those features though.

HP DeskJet 3755 review: Price and Warranty

With an MSRP of just $89.99, this is one of the cheapest small printers on the market today and while it's a few years old now, it's still a great choice for households on a budget, whether that be a monetary budget or a space saving one.

The HP DeskJet 3755 All-in-One is covered by a one-year warranty. You can reach technical support through a number of channels, including phone, email, social media and live chat on HP's site. Other support options include online manuals, troubleshooting tools, FAQs and customer forums.

Should you buy the HP DeskJet 3755?

It's certainly not at the cutting edge of printer technology, but if you're looking for an affordable printer that won't take up much space on your desk then this is a solid choice. The built-in scanner is a nice bonus and it connects to all your modern devices, so it should suit your general needs well. But if you're looking for a truly mobile compact printer then you should look at something like the Brother PocketJet 7 PJ723.
