This recipe adds the punchy Mexican inspired flavour of a burrito into the classic comfort food – a juicy, homemade burger.
Like all the best fakeaway foods, this burger is messy to eat! We've piled it high with cheese and our refreshing burrito salsa that's absolutely bursting with flavour.
With chilli, paprika and coriander running through the lean beef mince patties, these burgers have a subtle heat that you can adapt to suit yourself. Add in more chilli if you prefer more of a kick!
These flavourful burgers will be your new favourite for fakeaway night. You could even cook the patties on the BBQ during the summer!
What diets are these Burrito Burgers suitable for?
Burrito Burgers can be enjoyed on a gluten free diet, as long as you use Henderson's relish instead of Worcestershire sauce and use a gluten free bread roll.
To make this recipe dairy free you will need to substitute the light burger cheese slices for a dairy free alternative.
If you're cooking for people with allergies, be extra careful when checking ingredients and preparing food!

How many calories are in these Burrito Burgers?
There are 463 calories per portion in this Burrito Burgers recipe, which means it falls into our Weekly Indulgence recipe category. If you're counting calories or following one of the popular diet plans like Weight Watchers, this recipe fits in perfectly!
NHS guidelines suggest men should aim for 2,500 calories per day to maintain a healthy body weight, and women require around 2000 calories. Each person has different calorie requirements depending on their goal, so you may want to adjust your daily calorie intake according to your own personal goal.
Step 1
Mix the beef with the paprika, ground coriander, chilli powder and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper and mix well.
Step 2
Shape the mince into 4 burgers that are around 1.5 cm (1/2 inch) thick.
Step 3
Place the frying pan over a medium heat and spray with low calorie cooking spray. Add the burgers and sliced pepper and cook the burgers for around 5 minutes on each side until they are cooked throughout. You can cut the top with a knife to check. The peppers should be glossy and soft when ready, if they are cooked before the burgers just remove them from the pan and set aside.
Step 4
While the burgers are cooking make the salsa. Cut your tomato into quarters and carefully remove the harder core and jelly with the seeds and discard. Finely dice the rest of the tomato and add to a bowl with onion, avocado, fresh coriander, lime juice and salt and pepper to taste.
Step 5
When the burger patties are cooked you are ready to assemble. Place a patty on a bun, add a slice of cheese, some cooked peppers and a dollop of salsa. Add the top of your bun and you are ready to serve!
What could I serve with these Burrito Burgers?
This is serious comfort food! These burgers are a filling dinner on their own but we like to serve them with a fresh mixed salad.
You could also serve alongside any of these side dishes;
- 15MINS
- 80KCal
How do you know when Burrito Burgers are cooked?
You should cook the Burrito Burgers until the beef patties are cooked all the way through. They will need around 5 minutes on each side. You can cut into the patty with a knife to check that it is cooked in the middle.
To keep your family safe, the advice here in the UK is to cook food until it has reached 70°C and maintained that temperature for 2 minutes.
How long can you keep Burrito Burgers in the fridge?
Once you've served this recipe, you'll ideally need to eat it within 4 hours.
You can store any leftovers in the fridge for around 3 days. Make sure that you allow them to cool completely before putting them in a container with a lid and chilling in the refrigerator.
Can I freeze Burrito Burgers?
We wouldn't recommend freezing this recipe once you've cooked it but you could freeze the uncooked burger patties.
If you want to freeze these burgers please remember to do the following:
- Individually wrap the uncooked patties in foil or paper
- Label your dish with the name of the recipe and the date that you froze it on.
How do I reheat Burrito Burgers?
From chilled: Place the cooked beef patties in a microwave proof container with a loosely fitting lid and heat for 3-5 minutes until piping hot.
From frozen: Allow the uncooked beef patties to defrost overnight in the fridge, and cook in a frying pan as per the recipe until cooked all the way through.
